WASHINGTON, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Superstar Kevin Durant scored 35 points to lead the defending champion Golden State Warriors past the Houston Rockets 104-100 in their opening match of the West Conference semifinals on Sunday.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, each playing despite right ankle injuries, scored 18 and 13 points respectively. Draymond Green added 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Forward Andre Iguodala came back to starting lineup and scored 14 points.

James Harden led Houston with 35 points while Eric Gordon added 27 and Chris Paul contributed 17. The cold-shooting Rockets shot just 14 for 47 from long range and hit only 41.9 percent from the floor.

Game 2 will be held on Tuesday.

Houston are meeting the Warriors in the postseason for the fourth time in five years, with Houston having never beaten their nemesis.

The two teams met in last year's Western Conference finals when Golden State rallied from a 3-2 deficit to win Game 7 on Houston's home floor. Enditem
